Mykenzie Kostka of Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Northwest Aquatic Club Swimming has verbally committed to next season’s first-year program at Indiana State University.
Last season, Kostka, a sprint freestyle and butterflier, competed in both freestyle relays at Indiana High School Athletic Association Championships, finishing 7th alongside her Carroll High School teammates in the 200 freestyle relay. Her top times include:
- 50 FR: 24.64
- 100 FR: 54.16
- 100 FL: 58.42
- 200 FL: 2:09.19
Kostka is the second verbal commitment for the Sycamores, joining Kansas state champion freestyler Cierra Campbell under coach Matt Leach, who previously coached at the University of Wyoming. The Sycamores will join Missouri State University, Southern Illinois University, Illinois State University, the University of Evansville, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the NCAA Division I Missouri Valley Conference. Kostka’s current times would have placed her in the B finals of the 50 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly at MVC Championships.
“I’m excited to be a part of a brand new program and help build a team from the ground up,” she said. “It’s unique to be able to say that I helped start that program and to be a leader as a freshman. I can see Coach Matt’s vision for the team, and I can’t wait to help that vision become a reality.”
Congrats to Mykenzie!! Can’t wait to have another teammate! Also swim swam, ISU has a third commit! Jacquie Price verbally committed last Saturday (Oct. 17)! Go scyamores!!!
