British Stars Head To Manchester For Int’l Meet This Weekend

The City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, home club of 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Jessica Fullalove, is hosting the Manchester International Swim Meet this weekend.  The two-day event will span Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th at the Manchester Aquatics Center, the host site of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

A strong showing of British stars are set to take the pool in pursuit of not only racing preparation for the upcoming European Championships and the 2016 Olympic Trials, but also for the prize money awarded to the top 12 male and female athletes. The £10,000 ($15,400) prize purse will be dispersed based on FINA points, with the number one finishers of each gender receiving £1200 ($1850).

On both days, the fastest 4 heats of all events, except the 800m and 1500m freestyle races, will be swum in the morning sessions, with the remaining heats being swum in the afternoon.  The fastest 8 swimmers from morning and/or afternoon heats will then progress to the final. Morning sessions begin at 8am local time both days, with the afternoon beginning at 1pm local and the evening finals beginning at 6pm local.

A review of the posted entry lists lays out the elite talent that will be competing at the meet.  Below are some key swimmers with corresponding individual race entries on which to keep an eye out this weekend. Heads up that it shouldn’t be too hard to catch Garioch Amateur Swim Club’s Hannah Miley – the 26 year-old has entered a monster 12 individual events. Also, although her club, Plymouth Leander, is attending the meet, Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte is absent from the entry lists.
