The Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has unveiled their first men’s rankings of the 2015-2016 season. The defending NCAA Champions currently sit on top of the rankings with 225 points. The Longhorns took down Indiana and Florida in their first official meet of the year, swimming long course on the first day of competition and short course yards on the second day. Townley Haas and Clark Smith dominated the distance events at that meet, posting some of the fastest times of the year so far.
The Longhorns also made headlines during their intrasquad meet where a majority of their team posted times that would have scored at the NCAA championship’s last year. The results, however, were never officially submitted so the times could not be considered for the CSCAA’s rankings.
California, Florida, Georgia, and NC State round out the top 5 in the first rankings of the year.
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division I Team Rankings are compiled by CSCAA-member coaches. The rankings will be released on a weekly basis throughout the 2015-16 season, alternating weeks between a men’s and women’s team ranking.
The CSCAA DI Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll. The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Ranking are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets. The committee does not consider teams that have yet to post official times in the current college season for the first poll.

Arizona’s freshmen are a very fast and talented group of competitors. Don’t be surprised to see their ranking go up as the season prgresses. Next dual meet is at home vs USC on 11/7. Should be a good one!

All the PAC 12 teams are ranked in the top 25. Not convinced of ASU being a top 20 team yet, and ahead of the USC Trojans at this time (come on). Utah will be hard pressed to hold that #24 ranking. With the departure of Nick Soedel & Fernandes their once strong sprint team, plus 4 of 5 relays are way down. They need a large increase in talented recruits once Kiraly leaves this season or all the program gains they made in recent years may be lost. BYU and Denver with more votes that Ohio State, go figure.
I think the poll is based of the duel meet results up to this point. I agreed with you on Utah! I hope they can develop the young sprinters to get their relays ready to go. USC shouldn’t rank high at this point… yes yes I get it, they will have all their studs by March.. but they aren’t a good team this time around. Ohio State needs to swim a real dual meet.. Their schedule is so weak!
