Breaststroker Lauren deTorres Verbally Commits to Colgate

Lauren deTorres, who is from Kinnelon, New Jersey and attends Kinnelon High School, has opted to swim for the Colgate University Raiders next year and has given head coach Andy Waeger her verbal commitment. Torres was named Suburban Trends Female Swimmer of the Year for the 2014-15 season, after the New Jersey High School Meet of Champions where she was a consolation finalist in the 100 breast.

Primarily a breaststroke/IM specialist, deTorres swims for Lakeland Hills YMCA. She has competed in both short course and long course YMCA National Championships, and her best SCY times from the last two years are:

  • 100 breast – 1:05.45
  • 200 breast – 2:22.69
  • 200 IM – 2:09.21
  • 400 IM – 4:38.42
  • 100 fly – 58.84
  • 50 free – 24.75
  • 100 free – 53.87

deTorres’ 100 breast would have made the “A” final at the 2015 Patriot League Championships and her 200 breast would have been on the A/B bubble. She should thus be an immediate contributor when she suits up for the Raiders next year.

“I chose Colgate because of the welcoming teammates and the dedicated coaching staff. Everyone made me feel so welcome and as if I was already a part the team. The strong academics paired with the swim program made Colgate the perfect fit for me.”
