OXFORD, Ohio — After nearly two weeks off from its season-opening meet, the Miami University men’s swimming and diving team take on the Purdue Boilermakers in its first away meet of the season. The competition is set to take place on Friday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
The RedHawk men are back in the pool for their second meet of the season. Miami is coming off a dominant 159-98 win against Xavier on their last meet on Oct. 17 in the Nixon Aquatic Center. Newcomers and returning swimmers alike turned in impressive performances, giving just a glimpse of what is to come this season. Junior Lucas Brock made some major contributions with a pair of individual first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:47.40) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.07). Miami swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle with senior Christopher Dieter coming in leading the way with his time of 1:42.79.
Freshman Jake Precious captured top finishes for Miami with his first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.69) and his second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.09). Freshman Robert Newman also highlighted the list of newcomers after he led the RedHawks in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.49) and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (52.53).
The Boilermakers are coming off 167-129 loss against South Carolina at their last meet on Oct. 24. Purdue has captured one win of the three dual meets they have competed in thus far. Last season when the two teams met in the Nixon Aquatic Center, Miami fell to Purdue with a final score of 207-92.
