Jayhawk Women Take The Win At TCU

A Big 12 showdown took place in Ft. Worth, Texas yesterday, as the Texas Christian University women hosted their rivals from Kansas at TCU’s University Recreation Center. The visiting Jayhawks proved to be too much for the Horned Frogs to handle, however, as Kansas  won 12 of 14 races, resulting in a final score of 178-119. The win improves Kansas’ dual record to 2-1, while TCU falls to 3-2 with yesterday’s loss.

Two freshmen started things off right for the Jayhawks as Libby Walker and Haley Bishop nabbed wins in the 1,000 and 200 freestyle events, respectively.  Walker registered a time of 10:15.1 in the former event, while Bishop scored a mark of 1:52.22 in the latter.

Kansas’ Madison Straight nabbed two individual victories on the day, first in the form of a 200 backstroke win in a time of 2:03.48.  Her next win came in the 200 IM, where Straight clocked a 2:05.01 for the win.  TCU’s Haley Bishop was another double winner on the day, racking up wins in the 100 fly (56.03) and 200 free (1:52.22). Chelsie Miller also got the job done twice, winning the 500 freestyle (5:00.45) and 200 fly (2:03.60) to add to the Horned Frog point kitty.

Jayhawk sprinters Hannah Driscoll and Haley Molden scored wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, registering times of 24.16 and 52.55, respectively.Teammate Yulduz Kuchkarova snagged the 100 back victory in a time of 56.66.   Kuchkarova, a junior from Uzbekistan has had a busy summer, competing at both the 2015 FINA World Championships, as well as the Moscow stop of the World Cup series.

TCU did collect a few wins in the form of Devin Newton’s 100 breast first-place-finish in a time of 1:04.58, as well as Lindsay Shabet’s 200 breaststroke win in a time of 2:19.59. Also, TCU diver Kristen Connolly managed to sweep both diving events, winning the 1 meter in 258.97 points and the 3 meter in 270.60 points.
