Texas 6A 100 Free Champion Mike Thibert Verbals to Texas A&M

Texas A&M has picked up a Winter Nationals qualifier from in-state, Mike Thibert, for their class of 2020. Thibert swims for Mansfield Aquatic Club and Mansfield High School, the latter of which he represented in his title-earning 100 free at the Texas 6A State Championships.

Thibert’s Top Times (SCY/LCM)

  • 50 free – 20.54/24.22
  • 100 free – 44.68/51.92
  • 200 free – 1:39.20/1:54.71
  • 200 IM – 1:52.13/2:13.38

Thibert is a Winter Nationals qualifier in the 50y free, and he’s very close to similar cuts in the 100 free in both courses and the 200y free.

Last year, Thibert would’ve been the Aggies’ #5 50 freestyler, #6 100 freestyler, and #7 200 freestyler. Texas A&M lost their top 100 freestylers last season in Cory Bolleter and Luke Shaw (Bolleter isn’t listed on their roster and Shaw has graduated), and Thibert’s arrival will be a much-needed shot in the arm to the Aggies’ sprint group.

Thibert is closest to individually scoring at the SEC Championships in the 100 free, though his 50 isn’t too far off. He’ll also be in contention for both of the shorter free relays at the conference level, especially considering he has a full year to improve before he gets to campus.

Thibert and Adam Koster (20.4/45.5 free) will immediately bolster the A&M sprint group when they join the program next fall.

Adam and Mike are both big boys with lots of talent. It will be fun to watch them battle it out at High School State in late February. Both will be swimming the 50 and the 100 free. Best of luck to both swimmers.

A&M is great but you should’ve chosen TCU! But Goodluck at A&M! SPIT BLOOD.
