Mean Green Win on the Road, Cougars Sweep Diving Events

The North Texas Mean Green took down the Houston Cougars on the road this Saturday 164.50-135.50. The Mean Green took a commanding lead from the start, winning the 200 medley relay by a second with the team of Biance Bosca, Sarah Vaisse, Kelsey Opiela and Isabelle Morris (1:45.74). This was good for a season best time for the Mean Green as well.

The Cougars fought back in the first individual event of the meet, the 1000 free, going 1-2 with Delia Weber (10:13.26) and Hannah Herbst (10:27.88). Weber would go on to sweep the distance events, touching in 5:02.24 in the 500. The Mean Green went on to take several consecutive event wins. In the 200 free, North Texas swept the top three with Morris (1:52.89), Katie Moore (1:56.04) and Sarah Manning (1:56.87). Natalia Kwiatkowska won the 100 back in a 57.38, a second ahead of Cougar Eleanna Koutsouveli (58.33).  She also took first in the 200 IM (2:07.87).  Koutsouveli refused to stay down and  later went on to win the 200 back in 2:03.02. Vaisse then took the 100 breast (1:03.90), followed by teammate Claudia Kitching (1:04.93).

The Cougars were back on top with the 200 fly, where Sharo Rodriguez Rivera beat out the field, touching in 2:04.72. NT’s Bosca  put book ends on the first diving break by winning the  50 free (23.99)  and 100 free (51.97).

Houston, which has a historically strong diving program, took the top three spots in both diving disciplines. Micaela Bouter, Danielle Shedd, and Taylor Olanski went 1-2-3 in both the 1 meter and 3 meter.

The 200 breast saw another 1-2 finish for the Mean Green, with Kitching winning in 2:19.62 and teammate Meaghan Rousset touching in  2:24.33. Sydney Buckley of the Mean Green touched out Rodriguez Rivera in the 100 fly 57.33 to 57.57.

The 400 free relay was a really exciting end to the meet. The Cougars were ahead through the first two legs and the Mean Green managed to pull ahead, touching the Cougars out 3:30.61 to 3:31.41. Like the medley relay at the start of the meet, this was a season best for the Mean Green as well.

The Mean Green and Cougars will face off again at the Houston Invitational Nov 19-21 in Houston.
