Angelo “Migs” Martin has verbally committed to swim for Texas Christian University in the fall. Martin is a senior at William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio, Texas, and swims club for Alamo Area Aquatic Association.
“A college coach here in San Antonio, TX gave me words of advice that has assisted me throughout the recruitment process. He stated, ‘Don’t look at the price tag, the reputation, anything that will deviate you from looking at the school. Go for the feel, the excitement, the comfort within the university. Where you FEEL the best and where you can picture yourself should be the deciding factor when choosing a college. No amount of money can buy you into the program. A decision made in that context is bound to fail.’ With TCU the moment we, the coach and I, drove past a sign that screamed ‘GO FROGS’ I instantly felt at home. I felt comfortable not just with the team, but also with the community and culture of TCU. This is what I always dreamed of. And for this reason, I chose to become a Horned Frog!”
Swimming for Taft at the 2014 Texas UIL 5A state meet, Martin won the 100 breast (56.04) and placed seventh in the 100 fly (50.68). The following year he moved up a division to the 6A meet; there he finished third in the 100 breast (56.27). Martin’s best times are:
SCY | LCM | |
50 breast | 30.62 | |
100 breast | 56.04 | 1:07.57 |
200 breast | 2:05.98 | 2:26.05 |
50 fly | 22.94 | 26.43 |
100 fly | 50.07 | |
50 free | 21.83 | 25.19 |
100 free | 46.95 | 54.67 |
200 IM | 1:54.51 |
Martin will add instant points to the Horned Frogs’ tally at Big 12s; his 100 breast would have scored in the A final at the 2015 conference championships, and his 200 breast and 200 IM would have made their respective B finals.
“I would like to send my regards to Coach Trevor Ziegler.”
