Salukis Sign Velocity Swim Club’s Laura Carver

Southern Illinois Head Coach Rick Walker has a National Letter of Intent signed, sealed and delivered today from Owensboro, Kentucky home-schooler Laura Carver.  Laura swims for Coach Leslie Angermeier at Velocity Swim Club and is extremely versatile, having taken the High Point Award at the 2014 Kentucky Long Course Championships and qualifying at least one event in each stroke for Sectionals.  She is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and three event Futures Qualifier.

Laura’s best times will contribute immediately for the Salukis within the Missouri Valley Conference.  Based on 2015 MVC Championship results, Carver would have landed her 200 breast and 400 IM in the A-final with the IM reaching as high as fourth place.  Three more events would have picked up scoring positions within the B-final as well.

“I chose SIU because of their good balance of academics and swimming. I really like Coach Rick, and feel like I fit well with their team.”
