Kevin Kane of the Portland Porpoises and Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine has verbally committed to Marist College for the 2016-2017 season.
Kane was the Class A Maine state champion in three events last season. First, he took the 200 IM in 1:57.66, a second and a half ahead of the next competitor. For the 200 freestyle relay championship, he teamed up with Jacob Griffin, Shane Moore, and Michael O’Donovan to take the title in 1:29.51; Kane’s split was 22.10. The team of Griffin, Kane, Tony Penk, and O’Donovan won the 400 free relay in 3:19.31, where Kane split a 49.12. He also took third in the 1o0 fly with a 53.96. Here are his fastest times:

Last season, the NCAA Division I Marist College men, led by coach Larry VanWagner, took second at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and fifth at Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships. The MAAC serves as the school’s main conference, but the ECAC meet offers some tougher competition from fourteen colleges and universities ranging from Division III to Division I.
Kane should score some points for Marist next season. Last year at MAAC Championships, he would have placed twelfth in the 400 IM, fourteenth in the 200 fly, and sixteenth in the 200 free.
Kane’s Portland Porpoise and Cheverus High School teammate O’Donovan will also swim for Marist next season.
