Womenโs 200 Meter Butterflyย โ Final
As one would expect from the American record-holder in the 100 distance, Kelsi Worrell of Louisville was out first at the 100 in 1:01.80. But the second half belonged to SwimMACโs Cammile Adams, with Schroederโs Hannah Saiz not far behind. After a first 100 of 1:02.17, Adams covered the second half in 1:05.99 for a winning time of 2:08.16, a world top-5 ranking. Saiz finished second in 2:10.37, and Trojan Swim Clubโs Haley Anderson moved into third with 2:10.77.

Becca Mann of North Baltimore had a strong finish as well, and came in fourth with 2:11.16. Katie McLaughlin of Cal finished fifth in 2:12.18, just ahead of teammate Noemie Thomas (2:12.38), Worrell (2:12.58), and Iowa Flyersโ Ruby Martin (2:13.18).
In the consolation final it was a battle between Calโs Caitlin Leverenz and Stanfordโs Maya DiRado for 150 meters. North Baltimoreโs Sierra Schmidt had a great final 50, and closed ground on the two leaders. Leverenz got the touch in 2:12.19; Schmidt ended up second in the heat with 2:12.80, just ahead of DiRado (2:13.05).
Menโsย 200 Meter Butterflyย โ Final
Michael Phelps of North Baltimore, seeded second behind teammate Chase Kalisz after the morningโs heats, looked ready to take control of the championship final. Phelps turned first at the 50 wall and at the 100 wall, about a body length ahead of Kalisz. Kalisz, an excellent finisher, closed the gap over the second half of the race and wound up getting to the wall just ahead of the world record-holder. Kalisz went 1:58.07 for the win; Phelps was second in 1:58.38.
The next four finishers all came in more or less together: Grant Shoults of Mission Viejo (2:00.41), Dakota Hodgson of Nashville (2:00.64), Princeton Universityโs Corey Okubo (2:00.66), and SwimMACโs Tyler Clary (2:00.81). Mack Darragh of Mizzou (2:01.19) and Michael Flach of Club Wolverine (2:01.83) rounded out the championship final.
Brendan Meyer of Northern Kentucky Clippers went 2:01.72 to eke out a victory in the consolation final. Gator Swim Clubโs Sebastian Rousseau (2:02.10) and Kyler VanSwol of Santa Clara (2:02.83).
Womenโs 50 Meter Freestyle โ Final
Four women came in to the wall at the same time, and it was impossible to distinguish with the naked eye who touched first. But Sesiโs Etiene Medeiros got her hand on the pad before the others, going 24.92 for the win. Simone Manuel (24.94) was just .02 back; she was followed by Abbey Weitzeil of Canyons (25.07) and Farida Osman of Cal (25.09).
Louisvilleโs Worrell came in fifth with 25.35. Tucson Fordโs Margo Geer went 25.68 for sixth. Ivy Martin of Wisconsin (25.74) and Nationโs Capital Swim Clubโs Katie Ledecky (25.87) placed seventh and eighth.
SwimAtlantaโs Amanda Weir (25.35) won the consolation final, a mere .03 ahead of Mason Makosโ Amanda Kendall (25.38).
Menโsย 50 Meter Freestyle โ Final
Nathan Adrian of California Aquatics crushed the pool record and posted a world top-3 time when he won the menโs 50 free in 21.56. Second place went to Canyons Aquatic Clubโs Santo Condorelli with 22.24, .03 ahead of Tucson Fordโs Brad Tandy (22.27).

Club Wolverineโs George Bovell clocked a 22.44 for fourth place ahead of teammate Geoff Cheah (22.71). The rest of the championship final consisted of Marcel Chierighini of Auburn (22.75), Joao De Lucca of Cardinal Aquatics (22.82), and Elvis Burrows of Trinity Prep (22.86).
The consolation final went to Michael Andrew of Indie Swimming with 22.44; Karl Krug of SwimAtlanta and Kenta Ito of Trojan Swim Club tied for second in the heat, both touching in 22.82.
Womenโs 100 Meter Backstrokeย โ Final
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars had a phenomenal finish to win the championship final of the womenโs 100 back. Franklin turned third at the 50 but came back in 30.3 to post a world top-5 time of 1:00.18 for the win.

Kylie Masse of University of Toronto and Dominique Bouchard of Oakville had strong second halves as well; they placed second and third in 1:00.31 and 1:00.66. Calโs Rachel Bootsma was fourth in 1:01.02, only .05 in front of Stanfordโs Maya DiRado (1:01.07). Kirsty Coventry of SwimMAC was sixth at 1:01.15. Cal teammates Amy Bilquist (1:01.39) and Kathleeen Baker (1:01.47) rounded out the championship final.
13-year-old Regan Smith of Riptide held off the field in the consolation final; she finished in 1:01.49 ahead of Trojan Swim Clubโs Kendyl Stewart (1:01.95) and Calโs Elizabeth Pelton (1:02.44).
Menโs 100 Meter Backstrokeย โ Final
David Plummer of New York Athletic Club, who had set the pool record in the morningโs heats, went out quickly and established a huge lead over the field by the 50 turn. Plummer ended up coming home just a tad slower than in the morning and finished with 52.85, .02 off his morning time. Plummer holds the second-fastest time in the world so far this season with 52.51 from the FINA Grand Prix in Dubai last week.

In the consolation final, Missouri Stateโs Paul Le turned first at the 50; then Phelps moved to challenge him from out in lane 8. Le held on, though, and finished in 55.78 to win the heat. Phelps came in second with 56.12, 1/100 ahead of Minnesotaโs Daryl Turner (56.13).
Women’s 200 Meter Breaststroke – Final
Kierra Smith broke another pool record and moved into the worldโs top 5 by clocking a 2:24.36 to win the championship final of the womenโs 200 breast. Smith was dominant from start to finish, continuing to build her lead with every 50. Minnesotaโs Haley Spencer got her hand to the wall just ahead of Torontoโs Martha McCabe, 2:26.92 to 2:27.13, for second place.

Marina Garcia Urzainqui of Cal placed fourth with 2:27.26. She was followed by Saint Petersburgโs Melanie Margalis (2:27.73), Breeja Larson (2:27.99), Andee Cottrell of Louisville (2:28.16), and Sarah Henry of Aggie Swim Club (2:32.08).
T2 Aquaticsโ Justine Bowker had a great race to win the consolation final in 2:30.85. Rachael Bradford-Feldman of Louisville came in second with 2:32.55, while 15-year-old Lara Bate from NBAC went 2:32.64 from out in lane 8 to pick up third in the heat.
Men’s 200 Meter Breaststroke – Final
Louisville’s Carlos Claverie won a tight race in the championship final of the men’s 200 breast, going 2:10.86 for a FINA “A” qualifying standard. He was out with a body lengthโs lead over the field at the 100. Nic Fink of Athens Bulldog Swim Club roared back over the second 100, though, and nearly caught Claverie at the end. Fink came up .07 short though, and finished second with 2:10.93. His 2:08.89 from the FINA World Cup in Paris last August is still the seasonโs best performance.
Cody Miller of Badger Swim Club had a strong second half as well; he took third with 2:13.91. BJ Johnson led the next wave of finishers with 2:14.03. Next came Thomas Dahlia of Cardinal Aquatics (2:14.55), NBACโs Kalisz (2:14.62), Wisconsinโs Nick Schafer (2:14.97), and Yannick Kaeser of Limmat Sharks (2:15.04).
Mizzouโs Sam Tierney crushed his second half and won the consolation final with 2:14.61. Guillermo Blanco of Purdue touched out Richard Funk of Club Wolverine, 2:17.11 to 2:17.33, for second place.
Womenโs 400 Meter Freestyleย โ Final
Another race, another pool record for NCAPโs Ledecky. Ledecky was out a tad faster tonight than in heats, and she came home harder as well. Ledecky split 1:59.13/2:03.42 to establish not only a new pool record of 4:02.67, but also the fastest time in the world so far this season.
Leah Smith of Virginia was only 1/100 off her personal best, finishing in second place with 4:04.67, also a world top-3. Smith was two body lengths behind Ledecky at the 300 wall, but she outsplit her by a second on the seventh 50 and began to move up on the world record-holder. Ledecky, who breathes to her right, clearly saw Smith gaining on her as they raced for home; she put her legs into it and finished with 29.55, more than 2 seconds faster than her previous 50.

North Baltimoreโs Becca Mann took third with 4:07.67, coming in just ahead of teammate Cierra Runge (4:07.99). Mission Viejoโs Stephanie Peacock (4:08.23), Badger Swim Clubโs Lindsay Vrooman (4:09.81), Haley Anderson of Trojan Swim Club (4:13.22), and Allison Schmitt of North Baltimore (4:13.53) rounded out the championship final.
Sierra Schmitt of NBAC successfully held off a challenge from Melanie Margalis of Saint Petersburg to take the consolation final in 4:11.33; Margalis was 4:11.52.
Menโs 400 Meter Freestyleย โ Final
Conor Dwyer turned in the fourth-fastest time in the world, and blew away the field in Minneapolis, posting a 3:48.11 in the championship final of the menโs 400 free. Dwyer was already a body length up at the 100, three at the 200, and five at the 300. Marcelo Acosta of Azura Florida came in second with 3:53.57, ahead of Club Wolverineโs Connor Jaeger (3:55.23) and Sesiโs Giovanny Lima (3:55.35).

Trevor Carroll of Louisville earned the fifth spot with 3:57.88. Michael Weiss of Wisconsin and True Sweetser of Gator Swim Club tied for sixth with 3:58.19. Grant Shoults of Missio Viejo came in eighth with 4:02.16.
The consolation final went to Caan Swim Teamโs Andres Olvera Alejos in 3:58.10. North Baltimoreโs Nezir Karap edged teammate Kaan Ozcan, 3:58.70 to 3:59.90 for tenth place overall.
