On the strength of two relay wins and a diving victory from junior Amber Chong, Lakeside High school emerged victorious at the Washington State 3A Swimming and Diving Championship in Federal Way. Chong won with 413.45 points, while Lakeside won both freestyle relays.
The team of Helen Teegan, Caroline Wagner, Abby Wagner and Hannah Shabb won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.23, a state 3A record by over two seconds. Chong got in on the swimming action along with Isabel Chien and joined Caroline Wagner and Shabb to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:33.53.
Bainbridge Island got the meet started with a 3A State record in the 200 medley relay. The squad of Allison Murphy, Olivia Dow, Candice Rosen, and AniLa Dunn defeated Lakeside with a time of 1:46.72.
Seattle Prep junior Cameron Smith was a double event winner. She won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.11 before taking the 500 freestyle in 4:58.64. Furthermore, Smith was the only swimmer in the field under 5:00.
Senior Jocelyn Crawford also won two, first leading a 1-2 Garfield finish in the 50 freestyle (23.45), before seizing the 100 backstroke in 56.37 . Teammate and 50 freestyle second place finisher Marley Cross would go on to win the 100 free (51.65) later in the meet.
Kennedy Catholic senior Angela Gagliardo just missed pulling off a double. After cruising to a win in the 200 IM in 2:05.14, she came in just .1 behind Franklin freshman Mandolin Nguyen in the 100 breaststroke. Nguyen won that event in 1:04.55.
The only other event winner on the day was Mercer Island senior Sabrina Kwan in the 100 butterfly (56.44).

Still their friends from Garfield and other schools are poolside screaming themselves horse. The championship was the first meet where Marley Cross and Jocelyn Crawford finished the 50 free greater than .02 seconds apart. And, Jocelyn swam the 50 free in 23.41 not 23.45.
