Biedermann, Koch to Swim at German Short Course Nationals

From November 19 to 22, the German short course national championships will take place in Wuppertal, Germany, in the so called “Swim Opera” for the sixth time in a row since 2010.

Refering to a press release, published today by the German Swimming Federation (DSV), many German swim stars will attend the tournament, among others Marco Koch, the 2015 World Champion in the 200 m breaststroke, Paul Biedermann, who won the bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships in the 200 m freestyle, and Franziska Hentke, the butterfly specialist who finished fourth in Kazan in the 200 m butterfly.

They all will try to get a spot on the team for the European Short Course Championships which will take place in Netanya, Israel (2 to 6 December 2015).

„The German Short Course Nationals are a possibility to make some conclusions about the performance level at the end of the first macro cycle of the Olympic season,” stated German National Head Coach Henning Lambertz in a press release. „The athletes compare their times with those of recent years and work with their home coaches in the upcoming months on the gained insights. From this point of view, a German Championship is as a comparison an important step on the road to Rio.“

It is interesting that Paul Biedermann is in the entry list on 200 m and the 400 m freestyle – he’s renounced the 400 m freestyle in his competition program in 2015 at the important swim meets so far. Marco Koch is set to compete in 50, 100, 200 m breaststroke and the 200 and 400 m IM.

Germany’s chief coach Henning Lambertz is happy that all the German top swimmers are healthy and able to compete at the Short Course Nationals. 190 German swim clubs have registered 1000 athletes from all over Germany.

We will be live at the finals each day and post results on our live Twitter account, @swimswamlive.
