2015-2016 NCAA Division I Time Standards in LCM and SCM

College Invite season is upon us, and because it’s an Olympic year, many of the college meets are being held in a meters format to give athletes further opportunities to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials. While the NCAA allows for athletes to qualify for the championships in LCM and SCM in an Olympic year, they have only publicly announced the conversion factors to be applied to those times.

Below are the NCAA Division I time standards with the converted time standards in LCM and SCM for both men and women. We hope that this aids our audience in following the action across the various course lengths that will be used at this month’s invitational meets:

The 200 free cuts are right on top of the times which made the US Olympic team relay in 2012 !!!

I suppose this is NCAA way of communicating. Swim yards. Please — swim yards.

Bingo Joel!

College coaches were fairly outspoken last spring when LC cuts were discussed that they didn’t want true short course swimmers not making the meet at the expense of long course swimmers (who didn’t swim short course as well). The point was since the NCAA’s was a short course meet; the top short course swimmers should be rewarded. Hence the extremely challenging LC cuts.

These times are very fast, but remember, only a very few swimmers end up hitting A cuts.

some of these times can make finals at the Olympics lololol

Leah Smith made the LCM 400m cut. The LCM times are pretty unrealistic for most, not for her though.

Very unrealistic that anyone will make any of those times in LCM.

According to the TYR rankings Nathan Adrian is the only man in the world in this season to have swum under the 50m free LCM A-standard….

It would be nice to have another column for USA Swimming’s power point values. http://www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1484&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en

These are the qualifying times for 2016 NCAAs? Only 7 men in the world have made the 400 IM LCM time this year.

similar with the 200 backstroke. My guess is right now 3-4 people in the country at any age could make 1:56

The yards times are much more reasonable (although still quite challenging). I’m guessing the NCAA did this to discourage teams from trying to qualify in LCM or SCM for simplicity’s sake.
