Emory & Henry Downs Ferrum at Home

The Emory & Henry women downed Ferrum College in a home meet on Saturday with a 126-47 victory. Emory & Henry swept the events, winning every race to improve to a 5-0 season record.

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women’s Swimming Team moved to 5-0 (3-0 ODAC) on the year with a convincing 126-47 victory over Ferrum College Saturday afternoon at the Emory & Henry Aquatics Center. The Wasps won all 11 events on the day, setting four school records in the process.

Junior Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) continued to shine as she set three E&H records, two individual and one relay on the afternoon while senior Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) topped a previous best time as well. Emory & Henry went 1-2 in all 11 events including sweeping the top three places in eight of the races.

The Wasps started off the day with winning time of 2:08.64 in the 200-meter medley relay as swam by juniorJordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.), Nolte, Powell and junior Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.). Sophomore Holly Roth (Albuquerque, N.M.) won the 800-meter freestyle in 10:25.54.

Nolte’s first record of the day came in the 200-meter freestyle, as she went a 2:13.92 to top the previous best mark by 1.04 seconds. Powell swam the distance as a butterfly, taking her own record off the board and replacing it with a time of 2:39.90, a 1.5 second improvement.

Sophomore Marina Moore (Thomasville, N.C.) won the 50-meter freestyle in :29.41, swimming in exhibition, edging sophomore Brianna Chessock (Winston-Salem, N.C.) by .05 seconds (:29.46). Sophomore Mackenzie Lingle (Roanoke, Va.) took the top spot in the 100-meter individual medley with a swim of 1:12.29 and freshman Claire Goodrum (Versailles, Ky.) went a :30.93 in the 50-meter butterfly.

Senior Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) won the 100-meter freestyle in 1:03.76 while Moore made it two wins on the day with a :33.72 in the 50-meter backstroke. Richardson came within 2.28 seconds of a new record in the 400-meter freestyle relay, winning the event by nearly 21 seconds. Chessock earned a victory in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of :36.47.

Emory & Henry saw two records fall in the final event of the day, the 200-meter freestyle relay. Nolte led the race off with a time of :27.87 in her 50-meter leg to break the record which had stood for nearly three years by .08 seconds. The rest of the relay consisted of Moore, Richardson and Lingle who completed the distance in 1:53.48, an improvement of .87 seconds.

The Wasps have now completed their fall slate of dual meets and will set their sights on their mid-season invitational. Emory & Henry will travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the Transylvania Invitational onSaturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6.

How It Happened
The Wasps dominated in winning all 11 of the meet’s races. Ferrum managed second-place finishes in the 50 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 400 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke. The Panthers also earned five third-place finishes.
