Watch the Video of the Campbell Sisters Dominating the 100m Freestyle

Australian sisters Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell finished 1st and 3rd in the 100m free on day 2 of the Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Championships.

Cate went out in 24.54 and held on for the second 50m (26.84), touching the pads in a time of 51.38, just 0.37 seconds shy of the World, Commonwealth, Australian and All Comers records (51.01), all held by Australian’s Libby Lenton.

The sisters were the only two swimmers in the final to go out in under 25 seconds in the first 50. Bronte turned right behind her sister on the first 50m, in a time of 24.92 and her second 50m was 26.89, giving her an overall time of 51.81. Bronte was out touched by Emma McKeon, who went out in a 25.06, but had a stronger second 50 than Bronte, resulting in a final time of 51.76.

Cate went on to have another try at the 100m freestyle on the final day of competition, as she used the 200m free final as another attempt to shatter the world record, which she was successful at. The older sister touched the pads at the 100m mark in a time of 50.91, being the first ever woman to go under 51 seconds in a short course 100m freestyle.

The ever elusive race video. Partial race shown and not even the WR performance at that.
