Hosszu Post-European SC Championships Interview: “It Was A Fun Meet”

Although Italy claimed the most number of medals at the 2015 European Short Course Championships, Hungary topped the gold medals with a total of 11 and, incredibly, 6 of those belonged to just one swimmer.

#IronLady Katinka Hosszu earned a monster total of 6 gold medals and broke numerous Hungarian National Records throughout the 5-day competition in Israel and came close to a 7th gold on the final day. In her last race, Hosszu fell just short in the women’s 400m freestyle, earning silver to Britain’s Jazmin Carlin by just .03 of a second.

Hosszu’s golds all came in individual races and included the following events:

400 IM – 4:19.75
100 back – 55.42 (Championship Record)
100 IM – 56.67 (World Record – European Record – Championship Record)
200 IM – 2:02.53 (Championship Record)
50 back – 26.13
200 back – 1:59.84 (Championship Record)

In her post-meet interview, Hosszu says that “it was a very fun meet” overall, but does comment on how she “didn’t feel the rhythm” that she felt at Doha for last year’s World Championships. She attributes this to the fact that the short course season wasn’t as long this time around as in years past with the World Cup Series having taken place in LCM. Her only true short course meet was that of Hungarian Nationals, which took place shortly before the European Championships.

Hosszu spreads the love to her hubby coach Shane Tusup during the interview, commenting that wins are so much more special when you can share them with someone you love.
