Kromowidjojo Post-Euro SC C’Ships Interview: “I’m In A Good Place”

2012 Olympic Games double gold medalist, Ranomi Kromowidjojo from the Netherlands threw down a few statement swims in Netanya, Israel this past weekend at the 2015 European Short Course Championships.

Although Kromowidjojo finished with a still-remarkable silver in the 100m freestyle event to Swedish speedster Sarah Sjostrom, Kromowidjojo killed a series of 50m freestyle swims that made heads turn.

On an individual level, she ultimately won the women’s 50m freestyle in a time of 23.56, but registered a split of 23.26 as part of her squad’s 200 freestyle relay  that won silver and an anchor of 22.73 (!!)  in her team’s gold medal-earning 200 medley relay.

The 22.73 split from the Dutch dynamo was swifter than even her 22.88 anchor from the Netherlands’ gold medal-winning 200 freestyle relay from last year’s short course world championships in Doha (you know, the relay that set the WR in a time of 1:34.24).

Of her swims at the Wingate Institute against superstars such as Sjostrom and Dane Jeanette Ottesen, the 25-year-old Kromowidjojo said that her speed is “pretty good…the 23.5 was just ok, but I’m happy with gold.” In terms of her overall status in light of Rio being just less than 9 months away, the sprinter said, “I’m in a pretty good place and in pretty good shape” with Rio just on the horizon.
