14-year-old Alex Walsh of Nashville Aquatic Club downed Missy Franklinโs national age group record in the 200 IM for 13-14 girls at the Speedo Winter Juniors East on Thursday night. Franklin had set the mark of 1:57.70 in 2010.
Walsh came into the meet with a seed time of 2:00.07. During prelims she went a best time by 1.2 seconds and qualified third for finals. Walsh came back ready to race; she dropped time across the board, but her biggest gains came in the backstroke and freestyle legs, where she improved by 1.2 and .77 seconds, respectively.

Race of the day.
Alex Walsh star in the making. Yes Beegees, I said it 2 years ago! ๐
And when I picked her name 3 months ago for the 2016 US olympic team, a lot of swimswamers were pretty surprised.
Back to that race, I didn’t expect such a fast free leg. She has improved a lot that stroke in the last few months.
Butterfly is her weakest stroke. And she still has a lot of work to do in that stroke. But the 3 others are now crazy good.
Cool to see Isabel Ivey 2nd. What a meet for her so far. 1.44 anchor leg on day 1 in the 4X200 free relay! Big PB… Read more ยป
Bobo,
I am surprised you only noticed Alex Walsh two years ago.
I beat you by one year! ๐
