Team USA Cracks World Record In Women’s 400 Medley Relay

Team USA managed to bring the crowd to their feet at the end of the women’s 400 medley relay. The team of Courtney Bartholomew, Katie Meili, Kelsi Worrell, and Simone Manuel combined to win the event and add seven points for Team USA. Simone Manuel ran down Europe’s Ranomi Kromowidjojo to claim the win and break the World Record with their time of 3:45.20. That time also lowers the American and US Open records as well.

The European team of Katinka Hosszu, Yuliya Efimova, Jeanette Ottesen, and Ranomi Kromowidjojo also finished under the previous world record. They finished with a final time of 3:45.46. Katinka Hosszu lead off in a new US Open record time of 55.71, breaking Natalie Coughlin’s record of 55.97 from 2002.

Team USA established the previous world record at the 2011 Duel In The Pool at 3:45.56.
