Sebastiaan Verschuren recovered from disappointment on day two to become the fourth Dutch swimmer to make the Rio squad. Verschuren broke through in the 200 free, winning in 1:46.64 over fellow Olympic qualifier Maarten Brzoskowski. Verschuren is now a three time Olympian, having previously qualified for both Beijing and London.

There were no other Dutch qualifiers on the day, but Inge Dekker and Femke Heemskerk added titles on the final day. Dekker, who qualified earlier in the 100 butterfly, won the 50 in 26.06. Heemskerk, who swam under the Olympic qualifying time this morning, repeated that performance to win the 100 freestyle in 53.68.

Adam Peaty won again, although he was far from his world record form in the 50 breaststroke. Overall Peaty had a solid weekend of swimming as we approach the 2016 games.

Another solid performer for the British visitors was Roberto Pavoni, who won the 400 IM handily in a meet record time of 4:16.03. Pavoni led the whole way, and while he doesn’t appear to be a medal threat for Britain he does have a decent chance to make their squad.

Rounding out the British invasion was Molly Renshaw, who nipped Jessica Vall in the 200 breaststroke with a meet record of 2:24.68.

Mireia Belmonte also set a record, although her performance is still far from her peak last year. The Catalan superstar won the 800 freestyle in 8:31.00, far from her personal best of 8:18.

Germany’s Jenny Mensing set a meet record in the 200 backstroke, winning in 2:10.13. She led wire to wire over Denmark’s Sarah Bro. Bro swam close to her personal best in 2:12.53, she’ll need to set a national record in 2:10.43 to make the Danihs team.

Carlos Peralta was the class of the field in the 200 butterfly, winning handily and setting a meet record in 1:56.67. That time also guaranteed him a Spanish record in that event.

In women’s IPC racing, Maja Reichard of Sweden set a European record in the S11 50 butterfly, swimming 34.63. In the same race, earlier world record setter Lisette Bruinsma set a Dutch national record in S11 swimming 35.09. Bruinsma followed that up with a national record in the 100 freestyle (1:07.60)

Marlou van der Kulk set a world record S14 in the 100 freestyle to win the event in 59.05 and 1014 points.

In men’s IPC competition, Olivier van der Voort wowed the home crowd with a European Record in the 50 backstroke S10, recording 28.34. Van der Voort also set a national record in the 200 freestyle (2:00.81).
