Manchester’s Andrew Hinds Takes Weekly Award

HINDS, JOHNSON PICK UP WEEKLY AWARDS: the OAC’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week. The second Spartan to earn the award, he claimed event titles in the 50-yard breaststroke (28.9 seconds) and the 100-yard backstroke (60.52 seconds) and was also on the winning 200-yard medley relay squad (1:47.07) during a dual against Olivet College of Michigan Jan. 9. His results helped lead the Spartans to a 102-94 victory which was the program’s first home dual win. Hinds also added a school record time of 58.96 seconds in the 100-yard individual medley which placed him second in the event.

Spartans capture eight events, top Olivet

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The freshman trio of Andrew Hinds (Elkhart, Ind.), Guerby Ruuska (Rensselaer, Ind.) and Quinn-Michael L’heureux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) each turned in multiple- victory efforts Saturday, Jan. 9.

Hinds, resuming an impressive first-year collegiate campaign, won the 50-yard breaststroke in a fleet 28.9-second clocking and added a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (60.52 seconds) to go with his part of the champion 200-yard medley relay. L’Heuruex was just as solid, also joining the 200-yard medley relay championship to go with his top spots in the 100-yard butterfly (60.98 seconds), 100-yard breaststroke (66.24 seconds) and 50-yard butterfly (27.39 seconds). Ruuska was not to be outdone by his teammates, as he was on the winning 200-yard medley relay and wound up atop the awards stand in the 100-yard freestyle (52.94 seconds). Due to those results, the Spartans claimed the dual victory 102-94 over the visiting Comets of Olivet College of Michigan.

MU’s successes were added to by an individual title from fellow freshman Alex McBride (Elkhart, Ind.). He won the 50-yard backstroke in 40.26 seconds.

The Black and Gold continue dual action Saturday, Jan. 16. They travel to Wilmington College of Ohio for a 1 p.m. start.

Roskos diving victory lifts Black and Gold

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University picked up an event win in one-meter diving and just missed picking three first-place finishes in races Saturday, Jan. 9, to highlight a dual against Olivet College of Michigan.

Sophomore Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.) kept the beat going, winning her third competition of the season in as many tries. She scored 208.85 points in the six-dive format to aid in the team’s 60-point total.

In the pool, freshman Annie Barce (Fowler, Ind.) made it a photo finish with her Comet opponents in the 50-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 33.63 seconds. Her time was just fourth-hundredths of a second out of the runner-up slot and only eight-tenths off the winning mark. Fellow freshman Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) was stroke-for-stroke with OC’s Nicole Zerfas in the 50-yard breaststroke, being edged 35.50-36.25, and Barce came back later in the meet at Strauss-Peabody Fitness and Aquatic Center to battle the Comets’ Emma Cole within a second (28.39 – 29.38) in the 50-yard freestyle.

MU continues dual competition Saturday, Jan. 16. They travel to Wilmington College of Ohio for a 1 p.m. start.
