The Purdue men topped Eastern Michigan while the women’s Gold team won against the Black team tonight in West Lafayette.
For the men’s meet, the Boilers were dominant, winning most every event in the pool. They started off hot, winning the 400 medley relay with a 1-2 finish, then taking the next four individual events.
The 200 free and 200 back came down to the final few yards. Boiler Filip Bujoczek muscled his way back from a deficit at the 150 mark to take the 200 free (1:38.42) over Eastern Michigan’s Andrew Henry (1:38.65). Henry would get his revenge in a 100 free victory, with no other competitor within a second of him.
In the 200 back, Alex Toetz (1:49.67) just edged out Eastern Michigan’s Cole Bateman (1:49.83). Marat Amaltdinov took the 200 breast (2:00.21), and Purdue sealed the deal with a win in the 200 free relay, getting a 19.93 anchor from Adam Johnston. The Boilers took this one 102-97, with Purdue swimming in exhibition much of the meet to make this one seem closer than it was.
In the women’s intrasquad, Emily Fogle had an incredible night. She won the 100 breast (1:02.10) and the 50 free (23.98) individually, and also posted a crazy fast 26.73 on the Black team’s 200 medley relay. Alexa Davis had a strong night for the Black team, too, as she won the 200 free (1:46.78) along with the 500 free (4:50.73).
Meagan Lim was the star for the Gold team, though, doubling up and taking the 100 fly (54.98) and the 200 IM (2:04.32). Davis and Kaersten Meitz both posted sub 51 swims on the 400 free relay to lift the Black team to a win, but the Gold team stuck it out for the team win, 106.5 to 94.5.
