Cornell Men’s Swimming “Won’t Fade” On Training Trip

Video courtesy of Slater Goodman

The Cornell Men’s Swimming and Diving team recently completed their annual winter training. This year they were in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In between grueling training both on land and in the water, they took time to see the sites. The video depicts them walking through Old San Juan, as well as lounging by the Fort San Cristobal. We featured their women’s team video a few weeks ago.

Cornell is going through a big transition this year. Longtime coach Joe Lucia retired after 28 seasons at the helm this past spring. Stepping into those shoes was Big Red alumnus Wes Newman. The programs also went from being formally combined with their women’s team to having two separate head coaches.

Newman will try to help Cornell improve on last year’s sixth place Ivy finish. Newman was part of one of the best stretches in recent history as a swimmer, swimming on the 4th place team in 2006. The Big Red have two of the Ivy League’s best swimmers in junior backstroker Dylan Sali sophomore breaststroke Alex Evdokimov.

Word on the pool deck is that they’re thinking of approaching Ivy’s this year with the classic “Kentucky Taper”. Can anyone confirm these rumors??

Did Jack Pohlmann transfer to Cornell from Princeton? Judging by the picture, it seems so!
