Kiviluoma, Smith Earn Weekly Horizon League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Tuomas Kiviluoma was named Horizon League Male Swimmer of the Week and Joe Smith earned male diver of the week announced by the league office on Tuesday after both competed against Michigan State in a dual meet on Jan. 23.

Kiviluoma, a junior from Espoo, Finland, won the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.97) and 200 IM (1:52.47) while also placing second in the 100 freestyle going 46.04. He also swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay that placed second at 1:30.28. This is his first Horizon League weekly honor this season.

Smith, a freshman from Chelsea, Mich., placed second on the three-meter boards with a score of 312.75 and was third on the one-meter boards scoring 293.47 points. This is his second weekly award from the league.

The Golden Grizzlies return to the Oakland Aquatics Center Saturday, Jan. 30 and will recognize their seniors at 12:45 p.m. with the meet following at 1 p.m. against Cleveland State.
