World Championship Medalist McEvoy Shares Two of His Favourite Sets

Over the past three years Australian Cameron McEvoy has shown that his is a serious threat to stand atop of the podium in Rio. After making the Olympic team at the age of 18 McEvoy has gone on to win silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, take gold in the 100 freestyle along with a bronze in the 200 freestyle at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships and finished second in the 100 freestyle at the 2015 World Championships.

Most recently the 21 year old won the 200 freestyle at the Australian Short Course Championships taking down Ian Thorpe‘s 15 year old National record and tying Brent Hayden‘s Commonwealth record posting a time of 1:40.80.

McEvoy trains with coach Richard Scarce at the Bond Swimming Club and was kind enough to share two of his favourite sets with SwimSwam.

Swim: LCM 2.7km

3 times through:

  • 2 x 100 at heart rate approx. 170 – 180 (We call it 30 beats below max) on 1:40
  • 6 x 50 at 400 pace on 60s
  • 1 x 100 trying to beat your last 100 in a 200 (200 back end speed) on 2:00
  • 4 x 50 at 200 pace on 60s
  • 100 easy

Kick: SCM 1.6km

4 times through:

  • 2 x 100 at best time + 10
  • 1 x 100 at best time + 5
  • 1 x 100 max effort
