According to Mount St. Mary’s University freshman swimmer Mary Lombardi, the college will be adding a men’s swimming and diving program this fall.

Lombardi says that the Mount St. Mary’s head women’s coach, Neil Yost, now in his eleventh season with the Mount, had a meeting with the team yesterday to announce the new addition.

Mount St. Mary’s University is a Catholic, private, liberal arts university located in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Their enrollment sits around 1,700, and their athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference. The Northeast Conference does not currently sponsor men’s swimming, but many teams whose conferences do not sponsor swimming find another meet to shave and taper for.

The women of Mount St. Mary’s have finished fifth in the Northeast Conference for the last four years. Last season, team members Erin Ragen and Haley Fournier earned All-NEC honors. This year, the team is 4-2 in dual competition.

This announcement comes a little bit late in the game for recruitment, but Lombardi says that Yost plans on doing some heavy recruiting over the next couple of months.
