The record-breaking 200 medley team, Victoria Edwards, Catriona MacGregor, Dakota Luther, and Maggie Taylor, was the exact same lineup who set the record last year, a 1:43.21. This season, the group lowered their time to 1:42.49 in prelims. In finals they went a little slower, 1:42.94, but still kept the title. Conroe The Woodlands finished second in 1:43.04.
The Westlake group were successful in their individual events as well. Edwards defended her state title in the 100 fly in 52.93, just missing the state record, a 52.70 set by none other than Dana Vollmer back in 2005. Luckily, Edwards is only a junior, so she’ll have another season to take a crack at that mark.
Luther swept the mid-distance free events, defending her title from last year in the 500 and picking up a new title in the 200, where she was a runner-up last year. The sophomore’s 200 free win came in 1:46.90, and her 500 came in 4:48.56, one second ahead of Montgomery freshman Kaitlynn Sims, who swam the event in 4:49.54.
Westlake also won the 400 free relay to cap off the meet. Luther and Edwards teamed up with Emma Wheal and Morgan Johnson to win the event in 3:25.31 to second-place Conroe The Woodlands’s 3:27.93.
The COTW team did pick up some wins in individual events, though; sophomore Lucie Nordmann defended her 100 back title from last year, winning the event in 53.34. She also picked up a new win in the 50 free, taking the event in 23.09.
The Humble Atascocita team of Sarah Wehrmeister, Bethany Petersen, Rachel Hicks, and Jordan Wheeler won the 200 free relay in 1:34.82.
Conroe The Woodlands College Park picked up a pair of wins as well. Sophomore Monica Gumina won the title in the 100 free with 50.21, and the 100 breast went to Victoria Hunt in 1:03.91. Hunt just out-touched Conroe The Woodlands’s Caitlin Reynera‘s 1:03.97 for the 100 breast title, majorly improving from her fifth-place finish last season.
A pair of Keller swimmers took first and second in the 1 meter diving event; Taylor Ohlhauser took first place with 501.70, and Emily Grund finished second with 483.50.
To round out the meet, Jaden Bellina of Pearland was the only swimmer under 2:00 in the 200 IM, taking the title in 1:59.81.

Caitlin Reynera is a freshman, therefore she did not get 5th last year. She also went a 1:02.4 at regionals which was fast enough to win by over a second
mackey – that sentence says that Hunt, not Reynera, was 5th last year.
Oh oops
