New Zealand-born Stanford sophomore Sam Perry came away with the 50 free Pac-12 title on Thursday in Federal Way at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships, moving up from a 4th-place finish at last year’s meet.
Perry says that winning a Pac-12 title has been his goal throughout his Stanford career, and that this has been a goal meet for his team all season long.
Perry has swum well all season long for the Cardinal, standing out as a star in a Stanford sprint group that overall has improved significantly in depth and quality as compared to the last few seasons.
His time of 19.30 would’ve put him into the B-Final at last year’s NCAA Championship meet, and specifically would’ve been the 10th-fastest time overall in the evening session at that meet.
The New Zealand Open Championships and Olympic Trials will be held from March 28th-April 1st, which conflicts with NCAAs, but Perry will have an additional opportunity to qualify at the Canadian National Championships from April 5th – 10th, if he so chooses.
