Get In Your Element And Celebrate World Water Day

Water gives us our drive, our soul, our purpose, and today we gather together through the miracle of the interwebs to give water to the world.

World Water Day, first observed in 1993, is an annual international observance of water-related issues. Every year, the United Nations General Assembly sets a theme for the day; this year’s theme is “Better Water, Better Jobs.”

According to the UN-Water site, “Today, almost half of the world’s workers – 1.5 billion people – work in water related sectors and nearly all jobs depend on water and those that ensure its safe delivery. Yet the millions of people who work in water are often not recognized or protected by basic labour rights. The theme in 2016 — water and jobs — is focusing on how enough quantity and quality of water can change workers’ lives and livelihoods – and even transform societies and economies.”

There are a ton of ways to donate to clean water charities. UNICEF’s Tap Project is a nationwide campaign to provide clean water and sanitation to children across the world. A $15 donation can provide a child with one year of clean water. If you access the site through your smartphone, you can also take the Tap Project Challenge, which donates money to cause for every minute you don’t touch your cell phone.
