Shannon Vreeland
Shannon Vreeland is an American Freestyler and Olympic gold medalist. She was a member of the 2012 Olympic team and won a gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Missy Franklin, Dana Vollmer, and Allison Schmitt were also on the same relay.
High School
Vreeland was born in St. Louis, Missouri and shares her birthday with her twin sister, Michelle. She grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and graduated from Blue Valley West High School in 2010.
College
After highschool, Vreeland enrolled at the University of Georgia and began training with head coach, Jack Baurle. During her first three years, she earned NCAA All American honors 8 times.
World University Games
Vreeland hit the international scene in 2011 when she qualified for her first World University Games team. She earned a silver medal as a member of the 4x100m freestyle relay.
2012 Olympic Games
In 2012, she was a member of the Olympic team, after a 5th place finish at the Olympic Team Trials in the 200 freestyle, securing her spot on the Olympic Team.
2013 FINA World Championships
In 2013, she qualified for the FINA World Championships and earned three gold medals as a member of the relays. She was also selected to be on the 2013 Duel in the Pool team that competed against the European All Star Team.
2014 Pan Pacific Championships
In 2014, she qualified for the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia after finishing third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle at the Summer National Championships. At the Pan Pacific Championships, she earned a gold medal as a member of the 800 freestyle relay and a silver medal in the 400 freestyle relay. She also added a bronze medal individually in the 200 freestyle.
2014 Short Course World Championships
Vreeland also competed at the Short Course World Championships at the end of the year in Doha, Qatar. She won a silver medal as a member of the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, she finished 7th in the 200 freestyle and 9th in the 100 freestyle.
