Aleksandra Herasimenia Takes Down Own 50m Back National Record

Amidst all of the excitement this spring, as the world’s best are attempting to earn spots on their respective Olympic teams, Belarus’s Aleksandra Herasimenia has broken her own national record in the 50m back.

Swimming a time of 27.53 at the Stockholm Open in Sweden, Herasimenia topped the field and broke her own Belarusian record of 27.57.

This is a special record for the 30-year-old, as it not only marks her best time ever, but more importantly, erases her old rubber suit record. The mark of 27.57 was done at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.

In addition to her new personal and national record, Herasimenia rocketed to the #2 time in the world this season. She sits behind only Australians Minna Atherton and Emily Seebohm, who have both swum 27.49’s. Atherton, only 15 years old, swam that time in February and broke the World Junior Record in the process.

Herasimenia has put down the fastest times in Belarusian history in six different events– the 50 and 100m free, 50 and 100m back, and 50 and 100m fly.
