Two-time Olympian Audrey Lacroix is gearing up tonight to make her third Olympic team after taking the top seed in the 200m butterfly this morning.
Lacroix was a 2:11.07 this morning in the heats and will need to be over a full second faster than that in order to make the team tonight. The FINA ‘A’ standard sits at a 2:09.33 – a time which Lacroix has been under multiple times in her career.
Lacroix’s best time sits at a 2:05.95 that she swam at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. Since then her best time has been a 2:07.61 from the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won gold. Lacroix was right on that mark again last summer sporting a 2:07.68 at the Pan American Games.
At the World Championships last summer, Lacroix made the semifinals and is one of Canada’s best hopes for to make the 200m butterfly final in Rio this summer.
This will be Lacroix’s final race of the 2016 Olympic Trials making it her last chance to qualify for the team. Earlier in the meet, Lacroix swam a 59.10 in the 100m butterfly to finish fourth behind Penny Oleksiak, Noemie Thomas, and Katerine Savard.
