Women’s 50 Fly – Prelims (Non-Olympic)

100 fly winner and Olympic qualifier Svetlana Chimrova easily led the women’s 50 fly prelims putting up a time of 26.67 to give her lane 4 in the second semi-final tonight. Her Moscow City teammate Rozaliya Nasretdinova (26.92) was the only other woman to crack 27 seconds.

Men’s 50 Free – Prelims

National record holder Vladimir Morozov asserted his dominance in the prelims of the men’s 50 free, throwing down a time of 21.75 for the top seed heading to the semi-finals. That swim moves Morozov into 6th in the world for 2015-16, with still the semi’s and final to come.

Andrey Grechin put up the second fastest time of 22.14, as he looks to qualify in both the 50 and 100 free, as does Morozov. Surprisingly Evgeny Sedov, who has a best time of 21.84, tied for 17th in 23.17 and won’t move onto the semi-finals.

Anastasiia Kirpichnikova led the field in the women’s 800 free prelims in 8:49.98, as no one was anywhere near the qualifying standard of 8:28.98. However, we’ll have to wait and see how much some of the swimmers cruised prelims in the final. Arina Openysheva was 2nd in 8:51.91, and 3rd was Valeria Salamatina in 8:53.14. Sub-9:00 was required to make the final.

Alexander Popkov led a field that featured five sub 53-second swims this morning, leading to a very intriguing battle in the semi-finals and final. Popkov touched in 52.68 for the top seed, followed by Aleksandr Sadovnikov (52.70) and Evgeny Koptelov (52.95).

Women’s 200 Back – Prelims

Irina Prikhodko surprisingly nailed down the top seed in the women’s 200 back, finishing in 2:10.27 this morning. Daria Ustinova (2:11.27) and Anastasia Fesikova (2:11.62) qualified 2nd and 3rd overall, and will be the favorites to qualify come the final.

Prikhodko did represent Russia in this event at the 2015 World Championships, but Fesikova (2:04.94) and Ustinova (2:07.29) have been much faster, as Prikhodko’s time this morning was a best time.

Wow, that is like Clark Smith level disappointment…..

Much worse because Sedov had High level experience under his belt if i remember well . Clark Smith still has the whole Trials to get some very solid chances to expand his potential .

Sedov opened a 4x50free mixed relay with 20.59 in 2014, was sub22(LCM) at 18…
Santana is going a bit of backwards…that wonderful 1996 generation is at risk.Watch out, Dressel!

The final of the 50 in Rio will be absolutely a blast / explosive in many ways – It will probably take 21.4 to medal .
