Italy’s Energy Standard Cup will pit national teams from Great Britain, France and Italy against the Energy Standard Swimming Club team with €150,000 (or about $171,000 U.S. Dollars) in prize money on the line.
The meet will take place in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1. Some of the top European swimmers worldwide will be in attendance, including world champ and world record-holder Katinka Hosszu.
An event press release says that Hosszu, Sharon van Rouwendaal, Louis Croenen, Daryna Zevina, Andriy Govorov, Evgeny Rylov, Anton Chupkov and Rozalia Nasretdinova will be among the members of the Energy Standard club team, which is typically composed of some of the top athletes from Russia and the Ukraine.
The press release also says Gabriele Dtti and Simone Sabbioni will highlight the Italian team, and Ophelie-Cyrielle Ettiene will be among the French participants. No names were given for the British contingent.
The meet will feature three classes in each event: Youth (boys born in 2000 or later, girls born 2002 or later), Junior (boys born in 1998 or 1999, girls born in 2000 and 2001) and Open.
Prize Money
Each athlete can swim between 3 and 5 events. Each event will earn a swimmer points based on their places in up to 4 individual events.
Event Points:
- 1st: 20
- 2nd: 15
- 3rd: 12
- 4th: 10
- 5th: 8
- 6th: 6
- 7th: 4
- 8th: 3
The top 5 men and top 5 women in total combined points at the end of the meet will earn prizes:
- 1st place: €18,000 (about $20,600 USD)
- 2nd place: €12,000 (about $13,700 USD)
- 3rd place: €10,000 (about $11,400 USD)
- 4th place: €6000 (about $6,800 USD)
- 5th place: €4000 (about $4500 USD)
There will be extra prizes for swimmers in the Junior and Youth categories, and there are also huge bonuses for world and European records:
- World record: €30,000 (about $34,300 USD)
- European record: €20,000 (about $22.900 USD)
