British National Performance Director Chris Furber discusses the team that has been selected by British Swimming for the upcoming Paralympic Games. Furber talks about how the team is looking very strong, and that this team is a result of the work that has been put in to up the standards of British PARA swimming over the last few years.
He notes the qualification criteria has gotten more competitive recently due to impressive performances from British athletes, particularly at the World Championships last year in Glasgow. According to Furber, 25 swimmers have qualified under the standard, along with five others they are taking who were within 2% of the standard. The final swimmer selected was a “wild card” at NPD’s discretion, totalling 31 headed to Rio.
Furber discusses how the goal of the team is to have swimmers achieve personal bests at the Paralympic Games, something that was lacking in London.
Nice one Chris Fuber, please explain Kearneys’ no show at GBs main selection meets and her subsequent selection. Sincerely hope she makes an appearance alongside Davies in Berlin. God forbid this is nothing more than an ”evading tbe classifiers and public’ exercise similar to Aus Eliott.
Hopefully, the IPC have a plan B to catch these swimmers and their managers.
Funnily enough Paraswimmersupporter, but Jessica Long is a no show for Berlin as well. What is your reasoning behind this? Please tell.
