WATCH: Caeleb Dressel Swim 22.09 at TNAQ Invite

TENNESSEE AQUATICS JUNE INVITATIONAL

On the final night of the 2016 Tennessee Aquatics June Invite, Caeleb Dressel swam a 22.09 to win the men’s 50 long course meter freestyle by almost nine-tenths of a second.

While the time doesn’t standout as high as his 48.74 in the 100 free on Friday that was a new lifetime best for the two-time defending NCAA Champion, it is the second time this season already that he’s been 22.0, which mark the two best “in-season” times of his career.

He’s only been under 22 seconds twice, both at last summer’s US National Championships, where he swam a 21.85 in prelims and a 21.53 in finals.

Race Video Courtesy: Twitter.com/Big Bend Swimming:

Dressel broke the American, NCAA, and U.S. Open Records with the fastest times ever in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles in March at the NCAA Championships. His start was a valuable weapon in those races, and the video above shows that its held its value into long course racing as well.

The time ranks Dressel outside of the world top 20 this season.

Full session recap will follow.

Oh boy you’re so wrong. Manaudou will go 20.8 in Rio.

Actually I think Dressel could. Manaudou is not as dedicated as he used to be, plus Dressel is a better swimmer.

At about 17s into the 50 you see the fatigue creep in. Speed dropped a bit. It’ll come around with Taper. The fact that this is his 4th fattest time in his career LCM is both good and bad. It means he’s a phenomenal talent with tons of room for growth. But it also means he doesn’t have the experience of breaking 22 or going a time that will make the OT like Adrian does. Adrian I am confident could miss his taper and still qualify in the 100 or the 50. Caeleb might go 21.2 and 47.3 or he might go 21.8 and 48.2. He hasn’t shown crazy consistency in long course like he did with his 50s scy… Read more »

Caeleb had a couple meets where he went 20. before he brought it down to an 18. He’ll be fine. I think he was lying about being unshaved at SEC’s. He’ll be fine in Omaha

^”I think he was lying about being unshaved at SECs.”

Seems like a weird thing to lie about. Given how early SECs is, he could have done a pretty extensive taper and still had plenty of time to prepare for NCs. The taper is much more important than the shave.

He looked very easy and controlled. He has another 0.6 drop in him by the trials

Not quite Adrian but his best time outside of a championship meet

Dressel seems like a better taper swimmer whereas Adrian seems like a better in season swimmer. Trials is going to be fun
