Israeli National Record holder Marc Hinawi has signed a letter of intent to swim for the Tennessee Volunteers this fall. He’s the second Israeli national to commit to the Volunteers in the last week, joining his best friend and sprinter Gleb Ionichev on his way to Rocky Top.
Unlike Ionichev, one of the country’s best sprinters, Hinawi specializes in the middle-to-distance freestyles and is the Israeli National Record holder in the 800 meter free in long course meters.
His best times in long course meters/short course meters (with yards conversions):
- 100 free – 57.45/52.13 (46.9 from SCM)
- 200 free – 1:53.58/1:49.02 (1:39.4 from LCM)
- 400 free – 3:51.76/3:45.74 (4:19.5 from LCM to 500 yards)
- 800 free – 8:01.70/8:02.66 (8:59 from LCM to 1000 yards)
- 1500 free – 15:19.28/15:04.80 (15:01.25 LCM to 1650 yards)
He’ll join a burgeoning distance group under Tennessee associate head coach Tyler Fenwick that includes in this same class one of America’s top junior distance swimmers Taylor Abbott.
Hinawi turns 19 this year, and so is two years younger than his teammate Ionichev.
“I’m really happy with my decision to come to (Tennessee),” Hinawi said. Tennessee has good swimming and academics, the swimming coaches are really good, and I just can’t wait to start training with the team, and compete together at the NCAA Championships.”
Wow they are killing it internationally. South Africa, Cuba, New Zealand, Israel, Austria, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and North Dakota. Way to go UT.
pretty sure Matt will have them doing home work and going to class
