It’s a banner year for the Magnolia Aquatic Club (MAC), as four swimmers qualify for the always popular U.S. Olympic Trials scheduled for June 26 to July 3 in Omaha, Neb.

“We are very proud of these talented and hard-working young women,” said Terry Jones, MAC’s Head Coach, who notes this is the most the team has ever qualified for the trials.

Bound for Trials
Headed to Omaha to compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team that will represent the country in Rio De Janeiro this August are:

– Joy Field, 17, in the 400 meter and 800 meter freestyle events;
– Lucie Nordmann, 16, in the 100 meter and 200 meter backstroke events;
– Emily Reese, 16, in the 100 meter butterfly event; and
– Kaitlynn Sims, 15, in the 400 meter and 800 meter freestyle events.

Experience and Competition
Gaining valuable experience is definitely a key take-away for the foursome headed to trials, but Jones said these young women are athletes who are there to compete.

“These ladies are successful for a reason,” he said. “They are competitors.”
Joy Field and Lucie Nordmann go into the trials having won two national titles each at the 2016 National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior Championships this past March in Orlando, Fla. Field won the 800 meter and 1650 yard freestyle events. Nordmann took the 100 meter and 200 meter backstroke events. Field also won the 18-Under Open Water National Championships in the 5K (kilometer) event in April.

I have watched these girls swim a lot of high school and club races. All are fast. Lots of fast girls at MAC. Gumina and a few others on the team could have made the trials too. Good luck ladies!
