Matt Grevers on the 100 Back: “I Want to Hold My Title” (Video)

2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS

Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers sat down for a press conference today to discuss his preparation for Olympic Trials, which start tomorrow in Omaha. Grevers, a two-time Olympian, is the defending champion in the 100 back. At trials, Grevers is entered in the 100 and 200 backstrokes, as well as the  50 and 100 freestyles.

In the conference, Grevers discussed the highly anticipated matchup between himself, David Plummer, and Ryan Murphy in that event. He expects it to be one of the fastest races of the meet, relative to the World Record, and he thinks it’s possible for all 3 of them to be right there with the record.

Grevers also discusses the issues with the Zika Virus in Rio. Since his wife, Annie, is now pregnant, she won’t be making the trip to Rio with him if he makes the team. Grevers has been educating himself and will take all the necessary precautions when he comes back to make sure Annie and the baby aren’t affected by the virus.

Rooting for Plummer and Grevers for gold/silver in that order at both Trials and Rio!! And Murphy/Pebley for the 2Back, unless Lochte actually swims it all the way through.

Huh. I’m predicting a WR here. By about 6 seconds.

Haha. Whoops. I used the same intro in an earlier post for a female swimmer. Changed the name, forgot to change the pronoun. fixed it.

Totally understandable. It’s gotta be tedious watching and summarizing every single press conference. Little things are gonna slip by sometimes, but by and large I have been loving the coverage so far.

Grevers will qualify and will do great things in rio. I’m still hoping that Plummer will take the 2nd spot, in maybe his last chance to make an olympic team. With his 52,4 PB a couple of weeks ago (I asume it was unshaved and without too much rest?) I am confident that he will!

His pb is 52.18 I don’t care what FINA says. A time is offical. It was done in a legal suit in a legal meat. He went that time even if it’s not offical. I hope Grevers and Plummer make team

You’re thinking if Murphy. Murphy swam prelims of the Kazan mixed medley relay and went 52.18. Plummer’s PB is 52.40 from Indy Arena meet.
