2016 Olympic Trials Pick ‘Em: Night 3 Scores

2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS

Night Three Top Scorers:

T-1. Kmaas3 – 50 points
T-1. covenc – 50
3. grrr – 49
T-4. Duke Kahanamoku – 44
T-4. THEO – 44
T-4. Stay Human – 44

Overall Current Leaders:

1. Shane McK – 113 points
2. Presidential – 111
3. Kmaas3 – 104
4. That Guy – 101
5. aambutterfly – 99

For the second night in a row, two contestants have tied for the night’s top scorer: Kyle Maas (kmaas3) and covenc (who chose to remain anonymous) each scored 50 points.  Both nailed the correct 1-2 finish in the men’s 200 free, as well as the correct 1-2-3 finish in the 100 back.  The overall leaderboard is starting to shape up, with Shane McK and Presidential separating themselves a bit from the field.

Note: Maas is an incoming freshman at Alabama, and will not be accepting prizes (per NCAA rules).  He can, however, accept bragging rights for the day

Day 3 stats/notes:

  • Average score: 19.8 points
  • Median score: 20 points
  • Standard deviation: 10.2 points
    • ~66% of readers scored between 9.5 and 30.0 points
    • ~95% of readers scored between 0 and 40.2 points
  • The “Ledecky effect” was again present.  Without Katie Ledecky (a virtual shoe-in champion) in a final this evening, 22 readers failed to score a point this evening
  • Just 27 readers picked Townley Haas to win the 200 free; 423 readers selected Conor Dwyer, and 128 had Ryan Lochte winning the event
  • Not a single reader had Gunnar Bentz in their top six in the 200 free (he finished 5th)
  • Missy Franklin, who finished a disappointing 7th in the 100 back, was a heavy favorite in the event, with 352 first-place votes
  • 542 readers had Ryan Murphy, David Plummer, and Matt Grevers in some particular order as their top 3 finishers in the 100 backstroke
  • A whopping 400 readers correctly picked Jacob Pebley to finish fourth.  That’s more than double the next-highest number of correct picks for a third or fourth place finisher (spots that are normally more up for grabs than the 1st or 2nd spots) at Trials.

Up and down a lot here, just moved up to 34th and knocking on your door. Erratic though, complete goose eggs in some events and aced a couple others.

yup same. I missed every spot in the 200 free. I had Dwyer, Lochte, Haas, Rooney, Conger, and Malone 🙁

Yeah I got completely goosed in the 2Free also; had the same 6 swimmers you did, but in a completely different wrong order than yours, lol! I underestimated Bentz, Smith, Haas, and Conger a bit. I aced the 100 back tho; my heart wanted Plummer to win but my head told me that Murphy would probably get his hand on the wall first. I need to listen to my head more.
