In the first semifinal of the men’s 200 breast, Josh Prenot unleashed a 2:08.41 to vault himself to the third-fastest performer in the event in American history.

In his battle in semifinal 1 with Will Licon, Prenot was out fast in 1:01.68 to Licon’s 1:01.85. Prenot won ultimately, while Licon touched 2nd. Licon’s 2:09.08 ties him for 7th with Cody Miller and Scott Spann.
Prenot previously sat at fourth with a 2:08.58, and has leap-frogged Brendan Hansen for the third spot on the list.
One semifinal later, Kevin Cordes broke the U.S. Open record with a new best time of 2:07.81 which brings him closer to Eric Shanteau‘s 2009 American record.
Prenot’s time was fast enough to qualify him 2nd to the 200 breast final tomorrow night behind only Cordes, and the Cal Aquatics stud could be looking at his first-ever Olympic berth in perhaps his best event in long course.

Fr Brendan Hansens 2:08.5 would have been like 2:07.0 in a super suit. The suit he wore while setting that was even worse than the suits they wear now. That swim was legendary.
I always thought Hansen should have had the Gold in London, considering the other two medalists did numerous dolphin kicks.
You guys need to differentiate textile vs super suit.
Well of all the people mentioned in this article, Eric Shanteau is the only one that has a best time in the suit era. I think the article makes that obvious by saying “2009 American Record.”
