2016 PV LC SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

At the Potomac Valley Long Course Senior Championships, which run throughout the weekend in concurrence with the PV LC Junior Champs, University of Texas sophomore John Shebat dropped an impressive 2:00.86 to win the 200 IM.
Splits: 25.92 – 56.48 (30.56) – 1:31.41 (34.93) – 2:00.86 (29.45)
Shebat, who trains club with NCAP, was recruited to Texas primarily for his backstroke prowess. Nonetheless, his 200 IM has progressed remarkably over the last year or so. He came in to Eddie Reese’s esteemed program with a strong 1:46.07 in yards, but brought it down to a 1:44.13 at the Big 12 Championships after just one season with the Longhorns.
He first qualified for the Olympic Trials in this event at the 2015 Summer Nationals with a 2:02.49, then swam a 2:02.09 for a best time to finish 20th overall in the 200 IM event in Omaha two weeks ago. Shebat would have sailed through to semifinals with a 2:00.86 had he put that up in Omaha, though it took a sub-2:00 to make it to the final. In the 100 back at Trials, Shebat finaled and ended up 6th overall.
OTHER NOTABLE SWIMS:
- NCAP‘s Cassidy Bayer, who nearly made the Olympic team in the 200 butterfly a couple weeks ago, took the women’s 200 IM in 2:16.78.
- UVA-bound Morgan Hill of NCAP swam a 56.65 to win the women’s 100 free, finishing within six tenths of her lifetime best of 56.08.
- 15-year-old Claire Nguyen of NCAP dropped a whopping 12 seconds to win the women’s 800 free, swimming a time of 9:00.80.
- Recent Virginia Tech commit Lane Stone swam a lifetime best 15:38.84 to win the men’s 1500 free. The NCAP distance specialist dropped exactly two seconds from his PB, and beat the time he went at Trials by almost ten seconds.

Question: Right now he s ranked 7th so just misses the National Team.If Grevers were to retire, would he get bumped up and make the NT?
John is gonna do big things in his next few years, he’s already done some big things this year. He actually played football for a little while in high school and didn’t really swim too seriously through that time. But I think he realized he was a really talented swimmer and shifted his focus later in high school. So I am guessing we still see him progress pretty quickly
He was a stud younger kid then quit everything except summer league until hs. Crazy.
Ask me 4 years ago if he should swim in college and whether or not it was fun.
Just got this forwarded from a friend and was wondering what happened to him. Played youth and HS football with/against him. Fast with a gun for an arm. Did a backflip in the endzone after a touchdown! Very cool dude.
Loved seeing this. Shebat had a fantastic year, and held his own against everyone but Murphy in the medley relays at NCAAs. His four 100 back swims at NCAAs were all well below his then-best time. Seems he even had a good 100 fly in Omaha. When your medley relay teammates all hold national records and you fit right into the mix as a freshman, that’s awfully impressive.
Personal best at Big 12 was 45.88…in the medley relay final, even faster than his time trial. Then personal best at NCAAs was 45.36…in the medley relay final. Gotta love that.
All those Texas guys are crazy good relay swimmers. Makes you think there’s a lot of camaraderie built up down there, for all of them to be willing and able to step up to that level when the team needs it. Sub 3 medley relay next year?
if he train through 2020, I think there is a serious chance he makes the team in 100 back and 200 IM
