Zevnik Scores 100 Back Win on Day 2 of Greensboro Sectionals

2016 SPEEDO CHAMPIONS SERIES ESSZ MEET

NC State’s Alexia Zevnik won a tight race in the women’s 100 back to highlight day 2 finals at the Speedo Sectionals meet in Greensboro. Zevnik turned in a time of 1:01.28 for the win, getting out to the 50 split ahead of the field and holding off Kentucky’s Bridgette Alexander and UNC’s Hellen Moffitt.

Also taking a close win on the women’s side was Kentucky’s Kendal Casey, who claimed the race in 2:01.57. She just outswam Brooke Forde, who was 2nd in 2:01.79 for 2nd place.

Louisville’s Matthias Lindenbauer won the men’s version of the 200 free final, putting himself at the front of a tightly bunched group in the 1:52-range. Lindenbauer’s winning time was a 1:52.18, as he came from behind to edge out Adam Linker (1:52.51), Aldan Johnston (1:52.64), and Philip Perdue (1:52.88).

The longer distance swimmers contested the 400 IM tonight, which saw 3 men swim sub-4:30 in the men’s race. Marko Blazevski led the race by a large margin, winning by almost 5 seconds with a 4:24.48. Rounding out the top 3 behind him were Clayton Forde (4:29.10) and Jeffrey Durmer (4:29.47).

Prelims in Greensboro continue tomorrow at 9am EDT.
