The first world record attempt in the Olympic City will be made days before the Opening Ceremonies even begin– but it won’t be in the pool or on the track. Brazilian graffiti artist Eduardo Kobra will attempt a new Guinness World Record for the largest mural created by one artist.

The mural titled “Ethnicities”, or Etnica in Portuguese, will be revealed on July 30th. Kobra worked with a team of four guest artists for at least 12 hours a day for the past 2 months. Over 100 gallons of white paint, 1,500 liters of colored paint, and 3,500 cans of spray paint were used to paint a picture of the faces of five indigenous people from distinct nations on five continents. The artist said that he went to great lengths to accurately and repsectfully represent the people in his work.
The piece of artwork will be a key part of Rio’s “Olympic Boulevard”, which is located in the formerly run down port-area that has been refurbished for the Games. It will stand 15.5 meters tall and will take up nearly 2,945 square meters in size. Kobra says that he “was really happy to display [his] work here in Rio de Janiero” and that is was something he “has wanted to do for a long time”.
