Sectionals- “The Best Team Ever”

This article is courtesy from Daniel Marella, of Cupertino, California.

This past weekend (July 21-24) my team, De Anza Cupertino Aquatics (DACA) went to Roseville, California to compete at the California/Nevada Sectional Championship. I made a video that I hope you can share with the SwimSwam community.

This video captures what it means to be the best team. Being the best team doesn’t necessarily mean being the team that captures the championship, nor the team that brings home the most awards.

The best teams are the ones who support every single swimmer whether that swimmer is the first seed or last seed in the meet. They pack 30 people behind one block to let their teammate know that they have his or her back.

These teams are the most obnoxious, loud, and crazy teams on the pool deck when their teammate gets a best time or achieves a new cut. These teams stay to watch their one distance swimmer and cheer their hearts out for the whole 1500. These teams realize that a relay doesn’t just consist of four swimmers, they have four swimmers and 26 cheerleaders.

These teams aren’t just swimming for themselves, as the common belief is that swimming is an individual sport. They are swimming for each other. They are swimming for the moments that will always be remembered.

These teams are the best teams.
