2016 Olympian Eduardo Solaeche-Gomez makes his craft look easy in the pool, but the 22-year-old’s life hasn’t always been as smooth as his stroke.
Originally from Madrid Spain, Solaeche-Gomez was involved in an accident when he was seven years of age, one which almost cost him his eye. In the video produced by his stateside college team, the University of Florida Gators, Solaeche-Gomez describes how he was blind for almost two years and how doctors even wanted to remove his eye.
Persevering and fighting through several surgeries, however, the Spanish athlete conquered his ailment and achieved his dream of becoming an Olympian.
“Life is about overcoming problems, getting better and improving. You can always make excuses…this taught me to be stronger in more ways than physically.”
