Michael Phelps’ Special Edition Shoes Feature Son’s Footprint

All eyes will be on Michael Phelps, as the 22-time Olympic medalist hits the Olympic Aquatics Stadium pool deck in his quest for more gold and glory in his 5th Olympic Games appearance.

At 31 years of age, and with a 3-month old child now in his life, Phelps has made it clear he is a different person than in the past. But, his competitive spirit and drive are ever-present, as the most decorated Olympian of all time will race in 3 individual events, plus relays, while in Rio.

And, new technology from sponsor Under Armour will ensure that his son, Boomer, ‘is with him every step and stroke of the way.’

Previewed at the Team USA training camp, Phelps will be donning special, 3D-printed customized shoes by Under Armour. The sole of the shoe, as well as an outside panel display a 3D-printed image of Boomer’s footprint.

Although he obviously doesn’t wear shoes in the pool, Phelps is a regular presence in the gym, as presented most recently in the collaborative Under Armour ‘Last Good-bye’ commercial.

Specific only to dad Michael Phelps, this particular model isn’t available to the public, although Under Armour is planning on releasing a new color for the 3D concept, which falls under its ‘UA Architech’ brand later this month. The first version  of the 3D training shoe launched in March, but sold out in 20 minutes, according to Fortune Magazine.
