You sat on the edge of your seat as the USA men storm to a gold medal in the 4×100 free relay Sunday night. You watched Caeleb Dressel lead-off, Michael Phelps blast his fastest split ever, Ryan Held hold off the field, and Nathan Adrian deliver the win with a sub-47 anchor leg. But, did you happen to wonder what exactly each swimmer was doing when the live feed was not focused on them?
Well, you can now satiate your curiosity, thanks to a new video NBC has posted. You can see Phelps’ demeanor before the race begins, how soon each member of the US relay team hops on the blocks, underwater shots of Held, and Phelps and Dressel cheering Adrian home during the anchor leg en route to a USA gold medal in this event, plus the team’s post-victory celebrations.
does anyone else think Adrian looks crazy nervous before the race when they first come out? wonder if nerves had anything to do with today’s prelim swim.
Ha phelps when Nathan is in the pool is basically like “we got this”
I love how Phelps turns to Dressel about 10 meters before Adrian finishes and says “You’re about to win a gold medal”
